Terbinafine hydrochloride is used to treat dermatophyte infections of the toenail/fingernail, ringworm and jock itch, inhibiting ergosterol synthesis at the stage of squalene epoxidation (IC50 = 30 nM for C. albicans). Terbinafine inhibits squalene monooxygenase thereby blocking the biosynthesis of ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes. At 90-120 ?M, Terbinafine exhibits anti-tumor and anti-angiogenic activity by inducing cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 stage in COLO 205 tumor cells and human vascular endothelial cells.Inhibits squalene epoxidase to prevent biosynthesis of ergosterol and squalene monooxygenase. Shows antifungal and antimycotic activity.
