This compound has no affinity for AT2 receptors. Pretreatment with irbesartan decreases angiotensin II-induced apoptosis in rat vascular smooth muscle cells by blocking angiotensin II internalization in a concentration-dependent manner.Selective, competitive AT 1 receptor antagonist. Reduces vasopressin and aldosterone secretion. Shows vasodilatory and antihypertensive effects in vivo.
