It finds application as a solid electrolyte in electrochromic devices and precursor to the electroceramic lead zirconate titanate (PZT), as an insulator in transistors, as a thermal barrier coating in jet and diesel engines and as a diamond simulant in jewelry. It is used in oxygen sensors, fuel cell membranes and in orthopaedic implants of hip joints.
